When you are planning to do construction of any new building, addition or alteration to an existing building, any qualified Architect or Engineer licensed in Florida can design, prepare and sign and seal the blueprints. All plans must be drawn to scale and must accurately show all detail of proposed work. Most building departments will want two Signed, Dated and Sealed plans to submit with permit applications and supporting documents.

Once the permit is issued, one set will remain with the City as the Office Set and the other set will be given to the customer to put at the Jobsite to work from and have for inspections.

If you are doing exterior property work, building alterations, changes of use, new buildings and building additions, a signed and sealed survey, prepared by a professional surveyor will also be required.

Other professionals that design blueprints are Drafters and Interior Designers. Both can design and prepare the blueprints but need a licensed Architect or Engineer to sign, date and seal the blueprints. In addition, for smaller type projects some building departments in Florida will allow the Interior Designers to seal their own work and the Contractor to also create plans and have it Notarized.
